Ogre is a pretty big river and in proper season could be navigable from Lidere village, however you may expect some beaver dams and falled trees in forest stretches. Relative slope of the river - 1.5m/km, width - up to 15m.
In Ergli village, the main descend stretch is to begin. From here you have 6 to 7km of relatively simple stream which is followed by most interesting descend stretch on this river - Brazhi rapids (Class 1+). The slope of the river increase to 3-3.5m/km. The lenght of the Brazi rapids - 10km.
In contrast to other spring time favorites in Latvia, Ogre feature more rocks and bouldres in its bed, not fallen trees and strainers.
Rapids end with the Vecohres HES dam. This is also the end of one day descend route. The take out location is 300m downstream to the dam on the right bank. Distance back to Ergli by road from here is 30km.
After the Vecogre dam the river slow down, however smaller rapids will occur until Licupe (right bank tributary) fall in.
Downstream Mengele village Ogre is an all-season leisure river.
Places to see:
- Akmenupite (Vegerupite) waterfals.
Right bank tributary at the end of Brazhi rapids. Hardly noticable from the river, but it is pretty nice. |
